|Ceremonial commencement of work for the year 2017|

The High Commissioner and the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London commenced work for the New Year on 03 January 2017 at a ceremonial event held at the Mission.
The program commenced with the hoisting of the national flag and singing of the national anthem. A two minute silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. This was followed by taking of the Oath of the Public Servants by the entire staff of the High Commission, affirming to perform the duties entrusted to them in an efficient and productive manner to meet the challenges of developing the motherland. A video clip of the New Year message by H. E. Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka was also screened at the event.
High Commissioner Amari Wijewardene, in her address to the staff, stressed on the importance of the commitment of each and every staff member to the country and to the government in fulfilling the aspirations of all Sri Lankans.
The staff joined in to share a traditional meal of milk rice and sweetmeats to mark the New Year.
