A Buddha Pooja and Seth Pirith chanting, organised by the Sri Lanka High Commission, was held at the London Buddhist Vihara on 8th January 2016 to commemorate the first anniversary of the inauguration in office of President Maithripala Sirisena. Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain and the Chief incumbent of the London Buddhist Vihara, Most Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero and resident monks of the Vihara invoked blessings on President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.
Speaking on the occasion, Acting High Commissioner Sugeeshwara Gunaratna said that an year ago, the people of Sri Lanka had made a concerted decision to reinvigorate the process of post-conflict nation-building and that the success of current efforts with regard to reconciliation and development would determine Sri Lanka's forward march as a pluralist, modern democracy. He further stated that it was the collective wish of the Sri Lankan people that the blessings invoked today would strengthen the political leadership and the people of Sri Lanka as the country seeks to build a truly peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka.
Members of the Sri Lankan community in London and the staff of the High Commission participated at this religious ceremony.
